The Seaside Boarding House
Picture a classic 70’s seaside photograph, picture the 80’s in London’s media hub of Soho – and fast forward 30 years and you have The Seaside Boarding House. Here the beach meets sophistication, romance, style, cuisine, and ne wine.
Inside the almost colonial building, at the end of a long, exposed and winding cli -top approach, the welcome is cool – in an exclusive way. Hues of blue, interesting art, low pro le seating, and clean space accompany aperitifs and menu discussions.
Decisions made and a corner table in the restaurant beckons with breadbasket and salted butter. A bottle of Grolleau Gris, Domain du Haut Bourg 2014 accompanies us perfectly from bar to seafood and partners the scallops beautifully – they are a dreamy creamy with pea purée and hazelnuts. The chicken liver parfait, cider chutney, and toast literally dissolve on the tongue. This is top-class gastronomy.
The menu demonstrates the best from the generous Lyme Bay alongside the produce of the rolling smallholdings to the north of Burton Bradstock. The pan-fried cod with clams and rainbow chard is honest and fresh, the roasted chicken breast, tru ed butter, and spring onions is balanced – the tru e just giving enough of a musky in uence and the chicken moist. Side orders are also generous and service charming.
