The Mill at Gordleton
The Mill at Gordleton is more than the sum of its parts – a ne restaurant, a cosy bar, a secret garden, and an intriguing art walk through 2.5 acres of grounds.
It is a working mill and therefore access is over a bridge, alongside a lovely river, a shpond, and over the mill mouth into the restaurant.
There are super views over the gardens from every aspect. There’s a private dining room and eight bedrooms for those wise enough to take some time out for New Forest fresh air and the wine list – compliments of Berry Bros. & Rudd.
The menu o ers various options throughout the day; there’s a set lunch menu with very reasonable price points (three courses under £20). There are Mill Classics typifying traditional Inn food; soups, ploughman’s, home-cooked ham and croque-monsieur.
The à la carte literally boasts two categories of ‘signature’ and ‘favourites’ – we indulge in signatures of the sou é – twice baked with Ticklemore goat’s cheese – a good size, perfectly cooked, and the goat’s cheese just salty enough to subtly pair with the egg, delicious. The scallops and crispy squid with bean purée and curry oil had a fabulous tone of deep earthy curry, setting o the roe-free plump scallops rendering the bean purée almost redundant...
Mill favourites include the Mill Burger, home cured salt beef, baked Solent crab and Fjordling’s cold smoked salmon. Our signature mains overlapped with the duck; a breast of Gressingham duck, fondant potato, and Savoy cabbage. The duck was pink and tasty and the fondant potato melted!
Desserts follow suit with traditional choices of brûlées, fools, and crumbles.
The wine list comprises 60 wines with house choices starting at a respectable £19.95.
The menu presents good honest food, ideal for a Sunday lunch and equally suited to romance, a snack and a pint, or a relaxing break – the team is easy to approach and o ers a genuinely friendly delivery. 01590 682219
