The White Post
The battle begins when two counties stake their claim over the award-winning restaurant that is the White Post – who does it belong to – Dorset or Somerset? Set directly on the two counties’ border it is the diners that conquer the White Post! Sit to the right of the bright yet modest 48-cover restaurant you are in Dorset and to the left in Somerset – play nicely now and enjoy 50-mile views over the sun-drenched decking, garden, and rolling Mendip hills! There is a homely feel to this family-run restaurant and a relaxed service from owners Brett and Kelly Sutton.
The menu o ers much choice when one considers the size of the operation – typically seven starters and up to ten mains for lunch and dinner. It is really impressive and demonstrates the ability of accountant turned chef Brett, who claims repeated successes from the Roux Scholarship, Michelin recognition in the rst year of trading at the White Post, and now runs this country concern with Mayfair precision.
The ‘Pig at the Post’ is a signature starter – it is quirky, tactile, interesting, and combines taste and tongue in cheek – literally. Hand-made quail Scotch eggs, sausages, pulled pork nuggets, pork terrine, and a shot of chilli cider and try the spaghetti of Devon brown crab or Mac ‘n’ cheese.
