After a good dinner one can forgive anybody, even one’s own relations.
Billy Winters Bar and Diner
Nigel Bloxham and his pearl of a crew from the Crab House Café, have reeled in another top beachfront concept in the form of Billy Winters. Just a shell’s throw from the agship Crab House, you’ll nd an unassuming converted portacabin on Chesil beach overlooking Portland Harbour and Weymouth Bay, providing a casual and TARDIS-like dining proposition where Barcelona meets Barbados!
Imagine this; relaxing on furniture of recycled sca olding, ladders, and pallets with a cocktail in hand while listening to a selection of vinyl classics, as you peruse the eclectic dining choices, mostly dispatched from a wood- red oven, of fresh seafood (of course), vegetarian delicacies, and gluten-free baking.
Access is easy and you have a choice – you can walk along the old Rodwell trail, swim, kayak, kite, surf, cycle, and canoe or drop in – by helicopter! And if you come by car there’s plenty of parking...
Everything is cooked from scratch; wraps, meatballs, salads and cakes – even the pulled beef, which is cooked on site for three days! The burger of the day was a beetroot burger, a vegetarian option with fabulous earthy avours, it was a really refreshing alternative, served with a crisp salad and sweet potato chips.
The ame-baked pizzas are delicious with a variety of toppings on a home-made tomato purée and thin, crisp base.
Breakfasts are becoming legendary at Billy Winters and it is clear why, as once again there are some fresh twists in the chorizo bangers, mixed beans and bacon, and egg and avocado rolls.
Billy Winters is fully licensed, so enjoy a bottle of wine to accompany your lunch or dinner, a bottle of Champagne to accompany your oysters and take time to enjoy the view.
If you are after something a little di erent, less formal, reasonably priced (there was nothing on the menu over £13), and that is a real experience, make your way to Billy Winters.
And as for Billy himself? He’s well known and liked around these parts, although some may say he’s a little shell sh...
